SILK AQUATINT
Silk
Aquatint is a versatile alternative to traditional printmaking techniques. This is a great technique for painters and watercolor artists at any
stage. Silk Aquatint a.k.a. Silk Collagraph, is a non-acid method of
working a print plate where the image is created by painting with whitened
acrylic medium on a black silk surface backed with plastic, to produce
a variety of tones & textures. The plate is then inked, wiped (like
a metal plate), and printed on an etchingpress. Plates are easy to cut
and durable for large edition-ing. Designed for both beginners and more
advanced students. Limited to 8 students
"Julio
Valdez's oevre attest to the significant role that printmaking can
play in an artist's career. The texture, tonality, and layering of
Valdez's prints, as well as the physicality of his processes, are
linked to the meaning and symbolism of his work. As with his mixed-media
paintings, Valdez describes his hand application of materials to the
printing plate as a way of paying homage to ancient cultural traditions
of Africa and Latin America..."
